Perched on the dramatic slopes of the Aspromonte massif in Calabria, Roghudi Vecchio and the nearby hamlet of Ghorìo di Roghudi stand as two of southern Italy’s most atmospheric ghost towns, abandoned in the 1970s after repeated landslides and floods forced their Greek-speaking communities to leave. Today these silent villages, once among the last strongholds of the ancient Grecanico language and culture, offer a powerful and photogenic glimpse into a vanished mountain world of stone houses, narrow alleys, and timeless solitude.
